Tiny Toes in the Sand

A poem to the New Year

My mum remembers the first time
I ran to the shores of the beach
and dug my tiny toes into the wet sand

She remembers my look of wonder
and glint of mischief as I looked at her
with eyes that asked, “is this real?”
